Biography

Founded in 2017 by Adriana Granato, Studio Ibsen is a multidisciplinary design practice based in Milan, operating internationally across architecture, interior design, ship design and art direction.
Each project—regardless of scale or typology—is an opportunity to express a precise, site-sensitive vision. We favor what is appropriate, not merely what is new. Our work is rooted in a deep understanding of socio-cultural frameworks, and we believe every design should respond to its environment—historical, physical, and emotional.

Studio Ibsen has a long-standing engagement with natural materials and collaborates closely with artisan networks across Italy and beyond. These relationships—built on mutual trust, experimentation, and care—extend to suppliers, artists, and researchers, whose voices enrich our process. We see art not as an accessory to architecture, but as an integral, living force within it.

Team
Studio Ibsen is composed of architects, interior designers, engineers, and researchers from Italy and around the world. Each project is the outcome of a shared process, shaped by the diverse know-how of our team. There is no single author—every space we design is the result of a collective vision, built through dialogue, trust, and the layering of skills. This collaborative spirit allows us to respond to complexity with care and precision. We are always open to meeting new people who wish to contribute to a studio culture rooted in curiosity and constant exchange.
Network
We believe that meaningful collaborations grow from common ground—shared intentions, diverse voices, and a mutual desire to shape the built world with depth and purpose. Whether you’re an architect, designer, artist, or thinker, we welcome unexpected intersections. If your approach values substance over style and you’re drawn to places where design meets dialogue, we’d love to hear from you.

Research
Research is a vital part of Studio Ibsen’s practice. Over the years, the studio has curated exhibitions, edited books, and collaborated on graphic design projects that explore the intersection of architecture, culture, and visual language. This research-driven approach stems from the academic background of founder Adriana Granato, who teaches at Politecnico di Milano and has taught and collaborated with institutions such as Politecnico di Torino, the Architectural Association in London, Bezalel Academy in Jerusalem, and FADA in Quito. These experiences continue to inform our design work, enriching it with critical thinking, cultural depth, and a strong editorial sensibility.
Architecture
We focus on residential, commercial and hospitality projects with an emphasis on spatial clarity and a deep connection to place. Each project begins with observation and research, leading to designs that are legible, proportionate, and lasting.
Interior Design
Our interiors balance contemporary needs with timeless sensibility. We resist trends in favor of deeper, more personal expressions—spaces that age well and feel genuinely lived in. Materiality, light, and atmosphere guide every decision.
Ship Design
We bring a land-based sensitivity to marine environments, crafting tactile, composed interiors for vessels. Every detail—form, finish, and volume—is designed to elevate life at sea or on rivers, while meeting all technical requirements.
Art Direction
We craft visual narratives at the intersection of identity, craftsmanship, and architecture. As art directors for Abercrombie & Kent and Crystal Cruises, Studio Ibsen brings elegance and coherence to the world’s most remote destinations — and beyond.
